Our Story

Nexbloom is composed of Jubilee Chen on violin, Tessa Shune on piano, and Noah Perkins on trombone. This nontraditional ensemble was born in a fit of coffee-fueled manic productivity between three graduate students who wanted to get serious. We came together in spring 2022 with a vision: try something new and sound good doing it. We immediately began work adapting works by known composers such as Clara Schumann, Paul Schoenfield, and Steve Reich among others. Simultaneously, nexbloom began collaborating with every composer willing to write a piece. This collaborative energy has turned into a more than a dozen new works and many more to come.

stagnate (2022)

In stagnate, texture has become the foremost consideration of the compositional process. The difference between pitch and timbre becomes unidentifiable, as each instrument executes a brutalist presentation of ever-present sound. To be put simply, stagnate is a piece about sound production itself, and the balances of three equivalent forces existing in their own realm of musical theatrics.
