Noah Perkins, Musician
So you want to do some lessons?
I'm an experienced teacher who has worked with a great number of students working towards a variety of goals. Where do you want to go with your playing? What can I do to help you get there? Let's make it happen.
Teaching Statement
My top priority as a teacher and mentor is to be a conduit through which my students can not only express themselves artistically, but also experience the joy of competency. Students should expect to learn their craft, but to also do some of the challenging nonmusical work of building self-trust and self-esteem. I set very high (but achievable) standards for all students that are tailored to that student’s needs and current abilities. I fully reject the “old school” methods of shame and character assassination and choose to embrace curiosity and support. I seek to help build my student’s self-assuredness so they can enforce their own expectations. I aim to help mold great players, great artists, and great human beings.

What to expect?
My students can expect lessons to take them where they want to go. That can include making a run at a future in the industry, or playing for fun. I'll tailor the experience to what you're looking for. While I am primarily a brass performer and teacher I have worked quite extensively with woodwinds; less so with percussion and strings. I have taught 1-on-1, small groups, standard classrooms with up to 80 students, El Sistema-style symphony orchestra, jazz band, rock bands, and electronic music production.

All students can expect to learn instrumental fundamentals, music theory fundamentals, and music appreciation. After that it is up to you, we can do classical repertoire, jazz/commercial music, electronic music, composition, or anything else.
